Authors: Eleanor Coerr and Deborah K. Ray
Average review score:

Enlightening children's historical
A story of a chinese boy living with his grandfather at a mining camp during the gold rush. Chang is lonely and wants a pony so he would have a "pengyo" a friend. This story delicately discusses the hurt a person feels when they are made fun of for being culturally different. Chang's idea of panning for gold to earn money for his dream horse doesn't pan out, but honesty and hard work does. A wonderful story that will educate and entertain your child.

The Changing & Unchanging Face of U.S. Civil Society
Published in Hardcover by Transaction Pub (August, 2002)
Authors: Marcella Ridlen Ray and Francis Fukuyama
Average review score:

The Changing and Unchanging Face of U.S. Civil Society
This thoroughly researched book is a must for all who are interested in the viability of American civil society. Ridlen Ray amasses a wealth of data to empirically test Alexis de Tocqueville's famed theories on how American democracy works. Her conclusions are at once surprising and affirming. They call into question recent research findings on the diminishing well-being of Ammerican democracy and affirm the resilience of deeply held sentiments and a shift, but not a lessening of participation, in American civil society. In the process, Ridlen Ray also provides a useful model for evaluating the development of civil societies in newly established democracies such as the independent states of the former Soviet Union.

Childhood Comes First: A Crash Course in Childhood for Adults
Published in Paperback by C Henry Kempe (May, 1984)
Author: Ray Helfer
Average review score:

Excellent How-To for Adults who were abused children
Ray Helfer is somewhat unorthodox although "safe" in his approach to combating child abuse. The theory is that you became an adult before you had a childhood. Your emotional stability depends on childhood coming before adulthood. His approach to correcting the imbalance does work!! It is not a difficult or long drawn-out process. His approach to self help is avante garde. The practice and open mindedness on the participant's part is essential. When the cart comes before the horse, so to speak, your development is not on a solid foundation. You can finally become a healthy, happy, positive person. And best of all...you will not want to continue the abuse cycle!

Childhood Days- A Memoir
Published in Paperback by South Asia Books (01 February, 1998)
Author: Satyajit Ray
Average review score:

Those were the best days ..
This is Ray's autobiography ,translated by his wife Bijoya Ray.
Ray paints his childhood days (from very little age till when he crossed 16 years) with such minute details and interesting incidents that one has to finish this book in one go.

His passion for cinema(Ray is a world-known director)is grown in these earlier years thanks to those Hollywood movies coming regularly to Calcutta at that time.
One can get the live sights and sounds and life of Calcutta in this book during the time period of 1926-1936.

This is a great work.

excellent, east to use resource for christian educators!
This book is a tremendous addition to the tools available to African American churches. It provides historical information about Christian education; easy-to-understand tips for teaching all age groups and ability levels; definitions of African-centered Christian education and resources for materials (purchased, adapted, or designed); how to evaluate your programs; case studies of churches with Afri-Christian structures; and interviews from churches actively engaged in Christian education. This book makes you think about how to design programs that meet the needs of modern churches, are specific to the faith history and traditions of the African American church, and are applicable to all denominatons. This will be the text for all of my teachers!

darius cooper: an up and coming author!
this book was the in-depth analysis of this great Director's work. Cooper is one of the first authors to really deconstruct the films of Satyajit Ray into a consolidated, comprehensive, and meaningful text. I hope to see more of this up and coming author sooner!

Circling the Tortilla Dragon
Published in Paperback by Creative Arts Book Co (06 January, 2003)
Author: Ray Gonzalez
Average review score:

Blends the imagery of poetry with the art of the prose poem
The short-short fictions comprising Circling the Tortilla Dragon deftly blend the imagery of poetry with the art of the prose poem, blending history, cultural insights and visionary descriptions of such experiences as the serving of the last jellyfish in the world, or the discovery of a Big Chief tablet from childhood's remains. Vignettes provide sometimes-whimsical observations of Mexican and American cultural differences.

City Smart: Vancouver
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (May, 2000)
Authors: Ray Chatelin and Raymond Chatelin
Average review score:

"City Smart: Vancouver
Many guide books on Vancouver exist, but Ray Chatelin's "City Smart: Vancouver" is probably the best. In addition to the nuts and bolts that you would expect to read - where to stay, where to eat, tourist sights and shopping venues, there are also special sections on museums and galleries, "kid's stuff", sports and receation, performing arts, nightlife, day trips from Vancouver, and helpful tips and fun trivia. A great appendix gives you the 411 on everything from car rentals to consulates. I like its 8 1/2" by 5" size - it won't quite fit into my back pocket but it does fit nicely into my wife's purse. The book is appropriate for the one day visitor to Vancouver on a cruise ship, or for the visitor with more time to explore, or for anyone thinking of moving to Vancouver.
